UP ITTC is a co-presentor to the 1st Manila Game Jam!

Filipino game developers and enthusiasts will test their creativity and skills against game developers from other countries in a race to develop a game within 48 hours in the first Manila Game Jam on January 19-31, 2010 at the UP Information Technology Training Center (UP ITTC), in Diliman Quezon City. The Manila Game Jam is the first time that the country will participate in the Global Game Jam, an international event held simultaneously to challenge the skills of game developers and to showcase what games can be built in just 2 days.

Some 30 students, professionals, amateurs, independent game developers and even hobbyist developers have already registered for the Manila Game Jam. The participants will start developing their game beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday when the theme for the Global Game Jam is simultaneously announced. The game jam ends at 3:00pm on Sunday and will be uploaded at the Global Game Jam website (www.globalgamejam.org). The Manila Game Jam organizers hope to show the Filipino’s capabilities in game development in the world arena.

Global Game Jam is an event of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) of which the Philippines is a member. It was conceived to connect the gaming community through cooperation, innovation, creativity and experimentation. Last year’s Global Game Jam attracted 1,600 participants in 23 countries and produced 370 games. The Global Game Jam hopes to attract three times more participants and locations this year.

The event is organized by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA – Manila) with UP ITTC as co-presentor.
